Triple Unhappiness @ Kota Damansara

February 24, 2008 By: endroo G Category: Bloggy, Food No Comments →

Ok… the 3 of us… my mom, aunty and I went to this shop called Restoran Triple Happiness (Claypot Specialty) in Kota Damansara. It is situated next to an eatery called Ho Chiak. Yeah.. nowadays there’s a lot of eateries there worth patronising and to try out.

However, we were very disappointed by the service rendered by this claypot shop. And the food is not that good. Their Oyster Vegetables (choy sum) is so long I can make an 8 loop. I think they lack of man power and and kesian the pregnant lady at the cashier counter, she have to run up and down and help in identifying the dishes of every table.

One of the cook even have to come out and help in serving food and collecting payments. The same lady that take ordershave to help the cashier, making up tables, serve dishes, serve drinks. Then there’s 2 more guys apparently burmese or cambodians…. also kelam-kabut.

A real kelam-kabut shop. Mess. Some patrons were too fed up they walked away when food was not serve after probably 30 minutes. Man… this is just claypot food. How long will it take to cook?

The 3 of us are very unhappy. That will be our first and the last time going there. Damn tu lan.

Educational CNY trip to Ipoh

February 21, 2008 By: endroo G Category: Food, Travel No Comments →

Ok…. a real post now. Just had the exam today and I’m a lil bit free now to sit down and blog. Went to Ipoh last week for the Sky God Day at my dearest’ place, just like last year. And of course eating will be part of the Ipoh trip. The salted chicken was GREAT. Ayam garam.

I was lucky enough to be able to visit some place that otherwise I won’t be able to visit… in KL. Alright, I went to this “roast pig house” to collect 2 roast pigs with my dearest’s mom. I was able to see how roast pig was roasted. There were 15-20 slaughtered pigs hanging upside down, waiting in line to go into the old skool oven. Too bad, I didn’t have any picture of it.

Then, we all went to this heong peng shop… err.. I mean house. Yeah… these people manufacture stuffs in the backyard. Roast pigs and heong peng. I will post some of the heong peng experience in the next post hopefully.

We also went to this soy sauce factory. Pak yau chong. And I was amazed by the processes undertaken to make the pak yau… I mean soy sauce that we all take for granted. Again, this I will blog about it further in the next post as I need to process the pictures first.

Oh yeah, my Szer and I also went to Sungkai hot spring while on the way to Ipoh. It was a nice place. But I can also get hot spring in my hometown, Selayang which is just 20 minutes drive from here. You can swim, take a dip, boil eggs etc there too. Selayang Hot Spring is just 30 minutes drive from the heart of KL.

Delicious biscuits

January 15, 2008 By: endroo G Category: Food 2 Comments →

Found this at Giant supermarket in Cheras. The boxed package is expensive and only have  around 15-20 pieces of biscuits. But this one in a bigger container and its just RM13.90. I’m hooked to this one. Yummy.

Very expensive chicken rice in Jalan Ipoh

October 24, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food 3 Comments →

Chicken rice (white chicken + roast pork + cucumber + a scoop of ginger) for one (1) person; 1 glass Chinese tea.

Guess how much the bugger charged me? A whopping RM 9.60 ! Just for a fucking plate chicken rice. Arrgh. Even Chicken Rice Shops in shopping centres are cheaper.

RM 7.80 for chicken
RM 1.50 for roast pork
RM 0.30 for chinese tea

Con shop ! Con shop ! Then later at nite I told my mum I was charged RM9.60 for chicken rice and a cup chinese tea at Jalan Ipoh…. she quickly asked “is it the corner shop… where dad used to take us for dim sum at 3rd Mile??? “. I was like “eh.. how you know, mi ?!”. Then she said that shop is famous for “cut throat” because they are famous kopitiam on Jalan Ipoh since the 70s. (Restoran Tin Hoe Hweeh)

Oh I see. Now I know. Its just next to the red/orange tall building. Usually, me and my hommies go for dim sum a few shops further down the row… next to Hong Leong Bank.

Evolution of tambun biscuit

September 29, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food 3 Comments →

I always loved Him Heang’s and everytime my aunty came to KL from Penang, she’d buy a few boxes of Him Heang’s. But now, my uncle bought another brand and I loved it immediately. I can wallop half a box in a few hours of TV.

Its better than Him Heang’s orginal recipe. This one is coffee flavoured. Yummy.

But…. Drangonball anyone?? Ghee Hiang? This is definitely war of the tambun biscuits. Whats your favorite tambun biscuit brand?

Vono soup

August 28, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food No Comments →

Many months ago when there’s a booth selling Vono soup at my office building lobby, I thought it was crap. Although they were selling the soup cheap, a lot of people bought, I didn’t really know Vono is an established brand until I googled it. I thought it was just an upcoming bran trying to break into the market.

Now, my diet include Vono soup and its my favourite among all the liquid food. It is really satisfying.

7-11 is selling it for RM1.40 per sachet. Go supermarket buy in a box. Its cheaper.

Eating laksa at the beach : Laksa Tsunami

August 16, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food, Places 1 Comment →

I found one of the best laksa shack in Langkawi…probably in Malaysia, just next to Casa del Mar, Pantai Cenang. Introduced by a local waitress at a malay eatery when we were looking for laksa for lunch. Laksa Kedah. Laksa beras.

The owner of the stall also operate a water activities stuffs like banana boat, kayaks, sampans etc.

The place is just nice for an afternoon chill out place.

Sipping coconut water had never been better. No additive or preservatives. RM3.00 and its huge. Chelva was too obsessed with his coconut he got no time to pose for the camera. Gee.

So good for laksa that Szer adn I went there for our lunch again right before boarding the plane back to KL. Chelva and sis departed earlier that morning due to flight unavailability in the afternoon.

Sea Horse for your health

July 23, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food 2 Comments →

Yesterday, Szer’s mom bought this and made some herbal drink out of it along with some ginseng. It was said that is it good for detoxing the “dirty blood”.

The taste is a bit salty coz sea horse is from the sea.

Terrapino Fish

July 19, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food No Comments →

Had lunch in a shop at Giant Supermarket, Bandar Tun Razak.

Fatty Tiger Restaurant is the name. They have exotic river fishes (subject to availability). Red tilapias that weigh about 3-4 kg. Ikan tapah, ikan temoleh, and other fishes I forgot the names. They also have baby wild boar. Well, the boss is a angling freak. If you’re into angling, you may wanna go to this restaurant. Fresh fishes but they have some that are frozen though.

Then i saw a terrapin that weight around 25-30kg in a container. The size is as big as your car 16″ wheel rim. They said terrapin is good for men.

Too bad no picture is taken.

Choosing restaurant for dummies

May 28, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food, Places No Comments →

The next time you go to an unfamiliar place for a meal, remember these few tips.

Look around at other restaurants in the area. See if there’s any particular shop with more patrons and those with no patron. this is important because there must be something wrong with that restaurant.

a. The place could be a cut-throat place
b. The food could be lousy
c. The service they render could be shitty

I went to a Tee Huat (Klang) Bak Kut Teh Restaurant in Gohtong Jaya yesterday with my Szer. We went to Genting and had our dinner before heading back to KL. It was raining heavily when we reached Gohtong Jaya. So we decided to eat steamboat. As we’re looking for a decent to have our dinner, we saw a bakuteh and why not bakuteh on a cold rainy evening?! Hmm… so we parked right in front of the restaurant.

But then, eh… there’s no patron at all there. We’re the only customers. To think of that at dinner time (8.08pm) and how can other restaurants have half of their premise occupied if not overcrowded and i suspected there must be something amiss. Maybe the bak kut teh here is not nice to eat… but Szer insist that we try it.

Well, the taste of a good thick bakkutteh soup is there and just that they put a lot of pepper. Its like you’re drinking pepper soup. We asked for stomach and intestine and rib meat, vege, and yaucharkuay (deep fried ghost). The waiter said there’s no more stomach. Ok then, just rib meat and intestine. When the dishes served, there’s no intestine. What the fuck. How can a bakuteh shop thsi big have got no intestine and stomach. This is a very common stuff you’d find in any bakkutteh dish.

Asked the waiter, and she said “Oh, no more instestine too. Sorry, we forgot to inform you.”. I was like !@#$%.

After we finished the food, sat there to enjoy some hot chinese tea. It was good. Bla bla bla bla bla… we chatted for almost an hour plus and then the bill came.

RM51.50 !!

  • 1 pot of bak kut teh for 2 persons (with only rib meat, golden needle mushroom and dried beancurd-taupok)
  • 1 plate of vege (polisang yau choy)
  • 1 yauchar kuay (deep fried ghost)
  • 1 chinese tea sachet (Kam Kuan Yin/Thit Kuan Yin)

Thats all.

The portion for two is the same as we can get in Kepong. Woooh…..wait… this is fucking  expensive. We’ve been conned. Tiu lor….

6 to 10 Grill and Nasi Lemak

May 25, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food, Places No Comments →

Went to this eatery in PJ Sec. 17 for dinner yesterday. One thing, there’s a ample parking and its not congested like bangsar. Its located in a low-cost flats area.

The nasi lemak is just so-so barely edible to my standard. Of course the nasi lemak in hometown is wayyyyyy better. But there are a lot of people patronizing the restaurant. Maybe the western food is good. I should go there again and try their western grill.

Oh yeah, there’s another eatery located at just the next row of shopshouses to this joint… Food Foundry. My Szer said numerous blogs stated that FF’s mille crepe is good. So we bluntly went there on Wednesday and man……… the one Jason Mumble brought us to in Melaka is better. But then, their pasta is delicious. I had a beef steak but they are not very generous. The steak is just a big as ramly burger’s meat. A few leaves of vege and a slice of tomato. Not even some fries. WTF. I don’t fancy that place.

Is there any food that is good in PJ? Cheap, delicious and generous portion.

Food galore in HCMC

April 02, 2007 By: endroo G Category: Food, Travel 7 Comments →

The seafood we had at a place called 3T .

Before we hopped into a bus to head for a day trip to Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnel. The noodles i’m eating is “pho bo”. My Szer had pork chop rice. See that plate of rice with cucumbers, tomatoes?

At nite, we had mice for dinner. I think its paddy mice. BBQ grilled mice.

Monitor lizard. Black in colour, yellow patches only the already scally skinz. BBQ grilled cicak.

Need I say much more of this menu? It has a picture of a dog.
