Naming convention

October 22nd, 2011 No comments

The gynae gave us a very good souvenir yesterday, the ultrasound image printout of my son’s dick. I jubilated and jumped and I almost knocked my head on the ceiling.

Now, I need a name for him.

Joginder G
Wolverine G
Caleb G
Ashok G
Jacob G
Metallica G
Harrison G

Fooh. That’s only the western name. Chinese name already so many people fighting to name my son.

I AM THE DADDY !! They can only suggest the names and I will have the final say. Not even the priest, monk, fortune teller, palm reader, face reader etc. Period.

I have a few selections here:

G Chung Pou
G Thin Loong
G Khin Loong
G Mun Pou
G Chun Loong
G Cheng Loong
G Tow Foo

The wind of change blow straight into the face of mine…

October 20th, 2011 1 comment

The change I’ve been telling myself to make, came to me today. I’m finally reaping what I sow. The time, effort and money I put in for professional development are finally paying off.. handsomely.

I know I’m someone who would procrastinate and had been telling myself to make change in my work environment. Change department or change company. I’d admit that it had been ongoing for sometime but I have not really take the one step out of my comfort zone. It is time The Lord came and give me a tight slap on my face, waking me up.

To cut the long story short, my boss asked for me to be transferred to the non-motor department immediately he was made aware of my study achievement. Maybe my salary was too high to remain in the motor department. Anyway, I’ve decided to move over maybe around next year but never thought it would be so soon. He wanted it to be tomorrow. WTF. But after justifying to him that I still have outstanding work to finish, he settled and next Monday is the day I start over there.

My wife reminded me the story that i told her of the person, a colleague who once told me that there is no point to study insurance courses as you never know you’ll stay long enough in this company let alone industry. Gosh, I didn’t even remember that and now she reminded me, I’m having the last laugh. I can proudly say.. in another word, boast, that quite a number of eyebrows were raised when I submitted my transcript to the HR.

Three out of the four “heavenly kings” were surprised but delighted of the news and the rest is history. All this years in motor loss adjusting would never go to waste. The boss, in his psycho’ing session with me this afternoon, told me that to build a better career, the next is to go non-motor. The usual shit that I already know… from what I can sum up, the gist of the whole session is that it’s uneconomical for me to remain in motor department. Well, I can say the intrinsic satisfaction in the form of recognition will go a long way even after the balance sheet hit negative.

This all may sound like a big fat boast but this is my fooking blog, so what’s your problem now?! Bagi chance lah.

Road directions in Malaysia

October 16th, 2011 2 comments

Went to Big Bad Wolf Book Sale yesterday. It was crazy and there’s tons of books. Very cheap.

I want to talk about roadsigns today especially those in Puchong-Cyberjaya-Putrajaya. They have the worst roadsigns in Malaysia despite being the federal government stronghold. Going to Cyberjaya always end up having to make a big detour. If you missed one junction or turning, you’re fucked. You gotta travel at least 5-10 kilometres to make a U-turn. It is that shitty. Very misleading.

The other day when I went Cyberjaya for a seminar, although I was not late, but I could have reached 30 minutes earlier if not for the stupid signboards. I have to go all the way to Putrajaya to U-turn. Yesterday I missed a turning and went all the way to Bandar Saujana Putra to make a U-turn and paid RM3.80 in unnecessary toll fees. The map published by Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), where the book fair was held, doesn’t help either at all. Fuck.

I boast being a “drover”… where I know most of the places in Klang Valley… but Cyberjaya and Putrajaya is no joke. Don’t play-play. Signboards are place right at the junction/fork where you need to make a decision is split-seconds and manoeuvring from the outermost lane to the innermost lane and there are 7-8 lanes altogether.

Luckily, thanks to Wong JH, I got the direction right. Human intervention is always the best.

Associateship II

October 13th, 2011 No comments

The CEO and a director congratulated me today for my attainment of the Associateship which comes with AMII alphabets to be used in namecards. AMIIĀ is the professional “passport” to a better career in Malaysian insurance industry. I don’t know, they seemed a bit shocked but delighted.. that someone from my department achieved the qualification. I don’t care… I’m waiting for them to sign the papers for my pecuniary rewards.

Law of large numbers

October 10th, 2011 No comments

This evening I was stuck in the traffic jam and it took me 2 hours to reach home. One hour was spent on Jalan Sultan Ismail where my office is situated. The distance from my office building to Wisma Sime Darby is less than 2 km.

I wonder how much production can I and all the motorists who, like me, are stuck in the jam, can generate to the economy had we stayed back in the office to do some work. How much fuel we could have saved? How much carbon dioxide we all collectively released during that jam?

Hmm, worth pondering.

Associateship

Finally, the certificate was collected and submitted to HR. Now let’s wait for month end for the payslip. Hopefully this mid month, the pecuniary motivation which the company promised will be in hand.

This timely upward pecuniary adjustment is much welcomed as Bubu G is about to arrive and I hope to provide the best of everything I could to him.

Dear Lord, thank you for everything especially a blessed junior and all the bread that you provided for me and my wife.

The Apple inside Steve

October 6th, 2011 2 comments

The first Apple experience I had was at primary school. That time I was maybe about 8-9 years old. The computer class started with a few Apple II and Macintosh computers. We learned BASIC programming then. Then when the invasion began, Intel-MS Dos PC invasion that is, everyone were so excited. The game Karateka that was available on PC was a treat for us if we finish our work. Everyone just loved Karateka.

From there, many of us defected to the other camp, the Intel-M$ cartel.

Back then, only the priviledged few could afford Apple computers. There onwards, Apple computers were just another expensive boxy beige personal computer….until the iMac came around 1997/98. That was the start of Apple coming back to our lives.

Everyone were so crazy about Apple and I always wanted to own one since the iMac… although I have been saving to buy one till now. Gosh. The first Apple product I owned was the iPod Nano. It really revolutionised the way we listen to music. Walkman? Discman? So dinosaur….

Fast forward to early this year, I bought the iPhone 4 after seeing the success of iPhone 3 and 3S. My colleague JK and BIL Alvyn were somewhat the culprit, infecting me with the Apple virus. When bonus was announced, I signed-up DiGi plan rightaway just for the iPhone. Did I regret? Yes and no. DiGi line sucks but for the phone, no choice lah. Stuck with the carrier for 2 years.

Just when you almost got enough of iPhone, the iPad came along. Not long after that, the iPad 2 I bought online for my wife arrived from Shenzen.

And here today, the architect, visionary, designer and innovator of all these gadgets that changed our life for the better has passed on. Many of us may not know him personally but to me the iPhone that he brought to us is something so useful and handy in all kinds of situation. Of course thirdparty software developers also played a major role, the Appstore idea that is the brainchild of Mr. Jobs has made it so revolutionary and changed the landscape of software as well as music business.

The BSD-based iOS that runs the iPhone and iPad is considered robust as compared to other mobile OS. The decision to derived their OS from BSD-based Darwin kernel had always been a wise decision.

So, RIP to Steve Jobs the legend. May his soul rest in peace. Let’s hope his successor Tim Cook would do some magic and churn out better innovative products.
