Birdday 2012

Its my birdday again… and I’m happy to have the best present of all… Bubu G. Well, I also got a G-shock Mudman watch from my wife…something I’d always wanted since the schooling days. Haha.

All beloved family members are around to celebrate the CNY. Happy to be able to keep in touch with a bunch of school friends till now and hope it’ll be for the years to come. Hope our kids will play together in future.

Can’t wait for the arrival of the baby and very soon I can continue to travel for holidays…. hopefully I can cover Bali, Krabi and Siem Reap this year.

Gross negligence in medical practice

Last week a colleague told me over lunch that his wife just delivered their second baby last week at PPUM. It was a Caesarean operation. Then he recounted the horror of the wound bleeding after the delivery was over and gotta buy 2 packs of blood to replenish. He then discharged his wife and admitted her to Taman Desa Hospital to address the problem with the poor wound-stitching job.

Then I told him of my experience with PPUM few years ago when I had the life changing accident that broke my jaw and teeth. That stupid incompetent Dr. Quack medical officer, after cursory check and despite having perused the XRay scan, he told me I was ok to go home. My jaw was hanging and I couldn’t even move my jaw and he said I was ok.. I could not talk properly or else I would’ve gave him a profanity lesson. After a bit of a commotion at the emergency ward, then came a saviour in the form of Dr. Ha Kien Oon. I revered him as a dentistry maestro. With just a glance at the X-ray film and a bit of touching on my jaw, he said this is kinda serious. That idiot dr. Quack was embarrassed and slipped away unnoticed. Even the Head/Dean of the Dentistry Faculty met me to apologise for the medical negligence of that dr.quack.

So, many people say government /semi-government hospitals are not good but to me, it just depends on your luck. Of course there are many doctors who start their career at these hospitals and they may not have much experience. Once they gained much experience, many would’ve move to private hospitals which are much more lucrative. But there are some good ones who stayed back to teach, train, research and very much practice at the same place. It’s just that we tend to hear more of these medical negligence stories on govt./semi govt. hospitals but that does not mean private hospitals are free from such incidents. Maybe they are just covered up.

Guess my colleague just gotta make a professional indemnity claim for medical negligent.

Btw, in this post I’m in no intention of tarnishing the reputation of PPUM or any other government or government-linked medical institutions.

The year 2011

Another year goes by and we’re getting older. This year had been a great year for me and of course, my wife too. Many good things came our way and the intrinsic value of these good things are immensely priceless (not literally though).

We are blessed with a baby boy, Bubu G who is conceived this year and had been growing healthily in Szer’s “stomach”. A dragon boy is right on the way to play with me next year. Yay. That’s one of the happiest moment in my life so far. Preparation for his arrival is ongoing – shopping for the best baby stuffs, collecting hands-me-down stuffs from generous beloved family members, reading up on parenting, psychology, nutrition sciences, early education, toy technologies etc.

Next, the promotion which I dare say, a long deserved promotion. After plying my trade for 9 years in the same company, I finally moved a notch up the rank. The labour I’ve put into my work had gained recognition.

Then, it has to be the completion of my AMII (insurance qualification) which I’ve sacrificed 3 years to complete. It had opened many doors for me to move on from doing motor adjusting to non-motor, which promised better future career development. The completion of the course also got me a fat increment and monetary reward from the company. A win- win situation for everyone, they cover all study costs and in return for a contractual bond and huge monetary incentive for me. Not to mention the double tax deduction they’d get for sponsoring staff education.

People always say that life changes every 10 years. My life had certainly changed a lot this year. I turned 30. Got married before 30 (last December). So far it’s been a good start into my thirties. My wife also received many good things career-wise despite having joined that Dutch oil giant for just a year. The timely career improvement for both of us benefited lil Bubu G. That lil’ fella certainly brought luck to us.

So, I would like to thank The Lord Almighty for all that I have at this station of my life. May the year 2012 (dragon) be a better year for everyone. With a few more days to go, Happy New Year 2012 in advance.

Movie director Roman Polanski (famous for the Oscar winning The Pianist) met Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to discuss about the new movie that he will be directing. This new movie tells the life of some famous music composers.

When Stallone was asked who he’d wanna be, he replied “I want to be Mozart !”. Then when it comes to Arnie’s turn, he immediately said “I’ll be Bach !”.

Big DSLR cameras

Going to shopping mall these days, I’m sure you’ll see a lot of people holding heir DSLR cameras or having it hanging on their neck. I wonder why these people go shopping with their partners… along with a bulky camera. Some even walk round with their hand gripped tight to the camera and finger on the shutter button while browsing clothes with their girlfriend. Like someone might just pop their breasts out while at the changing room and you can take that split second window to click that shutter.

WTF. I’m not jealous of people having a DSLR camera but just don’t understand why would they go shopping with their girlfriend, holding her hand on one hand and the other holding a bulky camera.

Flood at National Library

Signs of a major one going to hit KL very soon. Kajang town already hit last week. Global warming and climate change is real.

Is your car extended to cover flood water damage? Go check with your insurance agent/broker today. There is a surge in demand of flood cover for vehicles.

Oh shit, there’ll be a lot of work…. arghhh.

Semi D

No, I’m not talking about my house-hunting now.

Just moved to another desk in the office where they said, are for the officers. Nice, spacious, not so hot, and the best of all, behind me is a cabinet. So, no one’s gonna see what’s displaying on my monitor. No people walking behind me.

Unlike before this when I first moved to this side of the office, I was sitting at a “terrace-house”. Now, I moved to a “semi-d” with personal phone (although I don’t talk on the phone much). Great. That’s the G’s Clan House. Before it was vacated, the person who last sat there has the same surname as I. He’s Robert G and now another G moved into that desk.

With the terrible weather lately, we are getting a lot of cases and since last week, flood in Kajang town and the unusual windstorm last Sunday, generated quite some business for us. Hmm… but then…. work like hell.

Cold flour

Someone told me that flour (the colder the better) could save you from getting blister should you burn you skin from hot water or direct flame. Put the cold flour all over the injured area for a few minutes to let it stop your skin from developing a blister. How true is this, I haven’t tried it myself. Hopefully I don’t need to try it. So, keep a pack of flour in your fridge just in case that very situation for you to prove whether what I said here is true or not, happens.

Education to eradicate poverty

I was at a baby products fair last week and saw a BRO’S water bottle with a message on it.. it reads “Education is the only way out of poverty”.

That is a really true statement. Donation and micro credit helps in the short term but education is long term and its what would propel the society out of poverty and of course, to greater heights.

Third decade

I think I have stayed in the same job for far too long and the sudden change makes me feel relaxed. Well, the workload in the new department is heavier as I can see on the faces of my new department mates. I don’t have that much work yet but that doesn’t mean I will be spared. Politics aside, people in the non-motor are far more independent and opinionated than the previous department. I’m saying this very frankly and there’s nothing to be afraid to be talked about. Here, people are more progressive and you can see people strive to better their career. I’m not saying there aren’t such people in the old department but there are more over here now. Most of the people in the old dept are in their comfort zone and I was one of them before. I’ve been telling MC to go and take up insurance studies if he is going to stay in this field.

Its good to see competition because that’s the only away to propel forward.

Learning and starting all over again (not literally from scratch but the learning curve is there) is so far so good. With years of experience on motor, picking up non-motor is somewhat easier than from afresh. Hopefully could be able to master the art of loss adjusting is this few years. Thinking of taking up loss adjusting professional studies. Hmm… but thats not so soon. Still got a few more CII papers to complete first. Just gotta take it slowly. Adjusting to the work culture in hand is more important now. How many 10 years do we have in life?

With Bubu G coming soon, hopefully I can find time to juggle for family and studies+career so that I can give my baby son a stainless steel / bronze if not silver or gold spoon when he is born. Trying my best looking for a decent house and environment for my boy to grow up and have a great childhood. A comfortable life is all I want. I don’t need a Lamborghini or Ferrari. They are for jocks.
