Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 ! You read it right!

October 13th, 2011 No comments

Wow… the much anticipated Apple iOS 5 was released this morning.. am downloading it… hopefully the firmware update on my iPhone 4 can be done in less than an hour from now.

Also read somewhere online that untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is already underway…. and the jailbreak firmware beta version codenamed “Yellow Snow” released somewhere. I’ve yet to get hold of it. The official Apple firmware update is about 775Mb in size and as I’m writing this, my download is already halfway about 450Mb.

Wonder if the jailbroken apps will still run on my iPhone or will the update erase the installed Cydia and Installous etc… all the jailbreak stuff. But, a host of news features which should’ve been incorporated in the earlier iOS itself are now available for free. Yay.

Stay tuned for the reviews.

Empire Shopping Mall tragedy

September 28th, 2011 No comments

The explosion Empire Shopping Mall, Subang Jaya was reportedly occured at about 3.00am this morning. There were some injured people ie. security guards etc. I heard about this on the radio while on the way to office. The news on BFM radio even reported that the blast was heard as far as Bangsar.. some 10 km away.

When I reached office, everyone was so excited about the tragedy and directors were already preparing to go to the site where the loss happened. Gosh, when a tragedy, catastrophe or major loss happens, the happiest people are the loss adjusters. Sad but true.

Gas pipe on the lower ground floor exploded… some unreliable sources said the explosion happened at Starbucks. The building is cordoned off by authority while investigations are ongoing to probe for the cause of the explosion. Experts are also conducting structural analysis on the building to ensure there is no structural damage that may endanger occupants as well as lives and properties in the neighboring area.

The loss is estimated to be in the region of RM150 million. That may be just a conservative amount for material damage while other liabilities and economic losses are not taken into account yet, I’d guess.

Insurance Company A (not it’s real name) is hit again, this time more terrible, after the somewhat major motor claim for the Lamborghini Gallardo SE fire loss last weekend, which was reported in newspapers. Hopefully, with a few more major losses like these, bonus for us for the year 2012-2014 will be fatter.

“Your loss is our gain” is what every loss adjusting firm have in their vision and mission statement. For some, that is even their motto.

Leonardo da Vinci’s exhibition in KL

October 6th, 2009 3 comments

There will be an upcoming exhibition of the genius, Leonardo da Vinci here in Kuala Lumpur at the National Science Centre, Bukit Kiara. The exhibition started since 1st October 2009. The centre open from 9.00am to 6.00pm daily.

Wow… now this kind of exhibition is something that should be held more often in Malaysia. Last year when I visited Florence where Leonardo created all his masterpieces, I was hoping that I would have a chance to see his artworks and inventions. Sadly, I missed all that. I only saw this statue (above) of the man. I also missed the statue of David. Then while in Paris, I went to the Louvre solely for Mona Lisa. Sadly, the whole world flocked into that room and we can only see from afar and there’s a protective glass covering it. The painting is a small portrait and not as big as you would ‘ve thought. I think its somewhere of a A1 sized paper.

Ok. I’m not gonna miss this chance in KL!

Alternatively, you can also check out Daniel Franklin’s blog for related Leonardo’s info.

Malaysian Parliament is dissolved !!

February 13th, 2008 No comments

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has announced that Parliament has been dissolved, paving the way for the 12th general election in 2008.

At a hastily convened press conference at his office Wednesday afternoon, he said he had met the Yang Di Pertuan Agong in the morning and received His Majesty’s consent to dissolve Parliament.

“I’ve informed Parliament and the Election Commission,” Abdullah said. The state assemblies have also been advised to dissolve.

The Prime Minister declined to speculate on what date Malaysians would cast their ballots, saying that it would be up to the Election Commission (EC) to decide.

“I am confident of winning, and I hope that we will retain our two-thirds majority,” he said.

The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition swept to a landslide victory in the last general election in 2004.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission said it would announce polling and nomination day on Thursday at its office in Putrajaya.

The Election Commission held several meetings Wednesday in preparation for the Prime Minister’s announcement of the dissolution of Parliament.

“We have got the declaration on the dissolution of Parliament by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the announcement of nomination and polling will be done tomorrow,” said EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman.

When asked if nomination day was February 21 and election day on March 2nd, he said: “You can speculate anything you want. The official announcement is tomorrow.

“You wait for the official announcement,” he added.

Abdul Rashid also said, “We want to make sure of fairness in this election process. We will ensure the appropriate time and space is given for the parties to choose their candidates and for campaigning.”

Election rules
The general election must be held within 60 days of Parliament being dissolved, in accordance with Article 55(4) of the Federal Constitution.

Once Dewan Rakyat is dissolved, the tenure of all MPs automatically ends, which also means that they stop enjoying the privileges, perks, and powers related to their function.

Until the next Parliament is convened, the country is run by a caretaker government.

The caretaker government’s role is to keep the government machinery running, and should not involve making policy changes or formulating new legislation.

My buddy’s first life accomplishment

January 18th, 2008 No comments

Congrats to Yea Chern who is now legally a husband. I was at Thean Hou Temple in the morning with Lee, Wen Shing and her sister the personality cum makeup artist. Of course, the family members of both the groom and bride were there too. I was there because he’s one of my best buddy and Lee and I were the cameramen. Well, I missed Ng’s and Towkay’s, I don’t wanna miss this because I don’t know who will be the next… how soon will it be. Lee, everyone’s looking at you. Hehehehe.

The whole session was quick. In less than 5 minutes for signing papers, taking oath and exchanging rings, it was over. The guy administering the affair talk like a preprogrammed voice recording machine in fast forwarding mode. After that, the whole morning was spent taking pictures at various places around the temple vicinity. There were many middle eastern tourists which came by the bus loads. They were amazed at seeing my friend and his wife and almost everyone whipped out their cameras to take pictures of Yea Chern’s wife. Everyone.

Congrats bro. Treat your wife right. Hope I can be godfather soon, ok.
