Sent my bro to the hospital, Damansara Specialist Hospital, for physiotherapy this morning and at the mean time went to the Credit Control Dept to settle the shit. Met the En. Ainol.. the fella who handled my bro’s admission.

G: Yo, Ainol, apa macam? Dah settle?? (Yo, Ainol, how is it? Is it settled?)
Ainol: Oh.. dah kan. Kan hari tu aku dah cakap on the phone. (Isnt it I told you on the phone the other day.)
G: Eh.. oh. Ya. Kena bayar untuk arm sling dan registration je. (Eh..oh. Yes. Just have to pay for the arm sling and registration fees.)
Ainol: Yeah, betul. Jom pergi kaunter bayaran. (Yeah, thats right. Lets go to the payment counter.)

So we walked over to the cashier counter outside the room. There was a lady tending to us.

Ainol: Ambik Mr. Bin punye fail. Nak buat refund deposit ni. (Can you take out Mr Bin’s file. Gotta make a deposit refund.)
Lady: Ok. (the lady looked among the heaps of files)
Ainol: Baguslah semua dah settle. (How good everything is settled now.)
G: Yeah. Bagus. Apa macam… dah minum, dah makan.. ? (Yeah. Good. So, have you taken your breakfast?)
Ainol: Oh..mestilah dah. Pukul brapa skarang ni?! (Oh, of course I had. You know what time is it?!)
G: Hahaha

Lady: Dah jumpa fail. Nak refund kena ambik IC patient lah.. dia kena sain. (Here I found the file. To refund, we need the patient’s IC and he needs to sign)
G: Eh… aku yang bayar deposit tu lah !! Adik aku kat rehab centre tu orang tengah tarik tangan dia… cam ne nak ambik? (Eh.. I’m the one who paid the deposit!! My bro is in the rehab centre now and someone’s pulling his hand… how am I gonna get it from him?)

Lady: Hehe… ok… ada resit untuk deposit hari tu tak? (Do you have the deposit receipt which they issued to you the other day?)
G: Ada… kejap… (looking in my bag for it)…. Ok. Ni dia. (I have it… here it is.)
Lady: IC?!
G: Ok… ni dia. (ok, here it is)

So waited again while she taps on the keyboard and generating the documents….

G: Eh Ainol, ada breakdown list untuk excess tu tak? (Eh, Ainol, do you have the breakdown list for the excesses?
Ainol: Ada.. (looking at the file)… ni dia. Final guarantee letter. (We have it… here, the final guarantee letter)
G: Eh.. (reading the letter - “Patient to self pay: Room & Board excess RM180, GST for Room & Board RM9.00, id band RM2.00 and arm sling RM26.75.”)
G: Ainol… so korang waive untuk aku RM180 dan RM9.00 GST lah… kan?! (Ainol, so you all are going to waive RM180 and RM9.00 for the GST, right?)
Ainol: Bukan. RM180 untuk R&B saje. GST you kena bayar jugak. (No, we only waive the RM180 for R&B. You have got to pay the GST.)

I caught fire in my head.

G: Kepala hotak engkau! Korang tak tanye pun, main letak orang kat bilik mahal, pas tu nak tipu. Skarang aku ingatkan korang absorb R&B… kau nak charge aku GST lagi. (What the fuck you numbskull ! You all didn’t even ask for our consent before you put us into a dearer room and tried to cheat us. I thought now you all are going to absorb the RM180 R&B charges and its resulted GST.

Ainol: Bukan… bukan… kita dah waive RM180 tu… kita telan tu… yes, kita absorb tapi GST kena bayar jugak. Ni goverment yang charge.. bukan kitorang. Insurance tak cover GST lah. (No, no, we’ve waived the RM180, we swallowed it.. yes we absorbed but you still have to pay GST. This is charged by the government.. not us. Insurance does not cover GST.

G: Ok… kalau GST untuk R&B yang aku entitled tu tak cover… aku bayar. Misal kata… insurance cover aku RM100 untuk room… then aku admit 3 hari.. so RM300 insurance bayar… RM 15 untuk GST aku bayar. Itu takde hal. (I don’t mind paying for the GST resulted from the room rate that is covered. For instance, my insurance only cover RM100 per day.. then I admitted for 3 days.. so insurance gonna pay RM300 and I’ll pay RM15.00. Thats fine.

Ainol: Ah, ye lah… betul lah tu, insurance tak cover GST. (Ah, yes. Thats right… insurance does not cover GST.)

G: Eh, kau ni tak paham-paham lah… korang yang buat kita buta-buta kena excess RM180… secara tidak langsung RM9.00 GST ni korang kena kautim lah. Kau nak tipu aku lagi ke? (Eh, you don’t understand at all… you all made us to incur unnecessary excess of RM180 and indirectly you all should bear the RM9.00 of GST. You want to cheat me again?)

Ainol froze, looking in dismay and speechless. He kept looking at the file and in a blink of an eye, he slipped out his wallet pulling out a RM10.00 bill.

Ainol: Ok lah, ok lah, ok lah… aku bayar lah. (Ok, ok, ok… I’ll pay for it.)
G: Aku bukan nak salahkan engkau.. aku cuma bagi tau korang cam ne nak buat kira-kira. (I’m not blaming on you.. I’m just telling you how to do maths.)

Lady: Er..ohh… eehh.. err… kejap… aku tengah print resit. (Er..ohh… eehh.. err… wait.. I’m printing the receipt.)

A moment of silence at the counter.

Lady: Ni dia…. balance. RM 171.25. (Here’s the balance)
G: Terima kasih. (Thank you)
Ainol: Ok lah. Sorry ah. Thank you. (in a very displeased expression but giving a customer-is-always-right smile, in other word “senyum tawar”)
G: Ok ok. Terima kasih. Se se ni. Wo ai ni. (I on the other hand… “senyum kambing”)

Man… what a drama.

Locality advantage

I was at Bolton Industrial Area, Batu Caves this afternoon. After a survey, I went to a road side nasi campur stall for lunch. There were quite a number scooping their food and takig away. I was just staring the people there coz its a bit crowded.

Guy1: Berapa? (How much is it?)
Boss: RM8.80
Guy1: RM8.00 lah.
Boss: Tak boleh la… awak ambik banyak lauk.. (how can, you took so much of food)
Guy: Aiyo… ayam dan ikan saja lah…. (aiyo, its just a chicken and a fish)
Boss: Tak boleh lah…. (cannot lah.)

The conversation stopped and the guy gave her a RM10.00 bill.

Then there’s another chinese guy complaining the food is expensive.

Guy2: Boss, ini manyak mahal lah (this is very expensive)
Boss: Tak de lah. Ini berpatutan. Harga semua barang pun sudah naik. (No lah.. this is resonable. Almost everything had its price gone up.)
Guy2: ok lah oklah…

Then I took a plate of rice and took big big scoop of sambal petai, 6-7 cuts of beef and a huge bean sprout hill. Sat on the table and walloped. Ordered a limau ais. Thats all. Spread my The Sun paper and started to eat and read about the shameful Port Klang Authority drama.

After I finished my food… I reached into my pocket and took out a pack of Peel Menthol Orange. The box was in orange colour.

LadyBoss: Eh dik.. rokok tu rasa oren ke?? (Hey bro, is that cigarette orange flavoured?)
G: Yeah. Orange.
LadyBoss: Haha… tengok warna kotak pun saya dah tau. (Haha.. I knew it when I saw the box colour.)
G: Aku beli kat Langkawi. (I bought it at Langkawi.)
LadyBoss: ooohhh…

I just ignored her and continued reading newspaper.

Then when I was about to pay they were in a mess. The lady boss asked another lady. I told them what I had…. then suddenly the lady said RM4.50 . They just simply charge.I was like… what?! 4.50? Yes, said the lady. Wooh… i saw 2 fella complained that food is too expensive and here i got big discount.

The lady boss asked me if i’m chinese or a malay.. i said im a chinese. “eh, I thought you’re a malay coz you speak fluent BM in malay accent.”

This is not the first time I was mistaken for a malay or getting a comment for speaking BM in malay accent . Maybe that explains the RM4.50 meal inclusive of drink. Great.
