Past, present and future
There are some history that is vital and there’s some that are not. Well, at least to yourself. Some history will make you proud and happy and there’s some that will make you wanna cry or embarassed/shamed or disturbed. So, we have our right to choose to the history we wanna learn/hear/read. Unless its in the syllabus, we gotta go along with the text books. We cant hide from it, we can only close our ears.
What happen presently is important if you want to read/learn nice history in the future. But then, we cannot alter history. We can only create it. The creation of history is very important. Lets create some good history.
What the future will be is what we work out at present. The future is what we want, what we all are looking for. Well, I dont want time machine to be engineered to give advantage to rivals/competitors/enemies. Stephen Hawkings is right.

Yes. We have to learn from history. Yes. Mankind developed thus from the mistake of our ancestors. If there’s no Windows 95 how there will be Windows XP and now Vista ?
But don’t we have an option ? Hmmm…
