Come together
This is the time when the world will come together as one. Here’s something penned by Liew that’s worth a thought… about what World Cup football brings to life, what it means to the world over. Why the world would slow down if not stop everything, just to watch 22 men chasing a fucking ball on a field and who are getting paid handsomely. This is like a crusade once every four years.
But the world today… all are about money. I just hate it when some people trying to spoil the mood while watchng your favourite team playing. I don’t like these people who bet and watch the game to watch with me. Why? Because they will keep on telling you this is a small-ball/big-ball game, no more goals after a certain amount of goals, etc etc. Hey, someone is trying to watch their favourite team playing and hoping they will strike the more goal the better. Just keep it to yourself if you know what will be the outcome of the game. Those who are not in the know are trying to enjoy a wonderful match in a clean state of mind in the true spirit of the beautiful game, cheering for their teams.
Anyhow, it seems to be very uncanny when someone shows you an sms of information about the match hours before kickoff. A colleague showed me an sms which wrote “Bet (take) Germany… give away 1.5 ball. “. The final result of the opening game, Germany trashed Costa Rica 4-2. So, if I would have placed a bet, giving away 1.5 ball, I would’ve won by 0.5 ball difference. So is this match fixing ? Or is this all really a part of today’s football. Commercialization and cashing in. Everyones trying to cash in from the world cup. The bookies can really make a difference.
This is why, all the clubs are so rich, that players are paid in millions just to kick a ball. Was Pele paid that much in those years? Man, now we have Juventus as the casualty of their own wrongdoings.
But anyway, lets enjoy the fever and some sleepless nites this whole month. And by the way, like what Liew said, if you’re not a football fan, you’ve got no friend this month.
Note:
small ball - 2 or less than 2 goals in a game
big ball - 3 or more than 3 goals in a game
